With funding from the Beaufort County Opioid Settlement Grant, Mercy Me Sober Living has secured a location for the long-planned men’s residence in Beaufort, SC.
The sober living house will be home to up to 10 men who are recovering from substance abuse and who may also use medicine assisted treatment (MAT) as part of their recovery program and is scheduled to open July 1, 2023.
MAT coupled with a 12-step program is a comprehensive approach to addressing opioid use disorders. MAT involves the use of medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone to manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings, while 12-step recovery programs like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous provide a supportive framework for long-term sobriety.
Combining MAT with 12-step recovery can enhance the chances of successful recovery by addressing the physical and psychological aspects of addiction. Medications help stabilize individuals, reduce withdrawal symptoms, and minimize relapse risks, while the 12-step model provides a fellowship of support, accountability, and guidance through the recovery journey.
This holistic approach to healing from addiction can significantly improve outcomes and promote lasting sobriety.
