A Day in the Life

Close-Up Photography of a Woman Near Wall

Every day starts with daily readings from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. This activity begins promptly at 6 am and is known as “On Awakening.” Every resident participates in readings, prayer, meditation and sharing their “plan for the day.”

Fresh coffee and breakfast items can be found in the bright and cheerful kitchens and residents may take their coffee and food to the covered patio where they will enjoy scenic views of our gardens, trees, vivid flowers, and abundant birds, squirrels, and deer. This is a perfect place to continue conversations, build relationships and have individual readings and meditation.

Residents participate in morning chores, make their beds, and tidy their room before leaving the house. Each person has an individual schedule for the day that may include going to AA or NA meetings, job searches, medical appointments, exercise, work, and other activities. Transportation is provided when available.

Normally, the residents begin arriving back home mid to late afternoon unless they have a later work schedule.

Frequently, we prepare a meal together and sit down for “family-style dining” with a relaxed, social atmosphere.

Often there are many options for evening activities, including in-house and outside meetings.

As we wind down our day, we assemble together for evening medication known as “Retirement” and constructively review our day being mindful and grateful for another sober day.

Words from our Residents

“MercyMe guides those in need through every turn of recovery, providing unfathomable love and support for all the people in their care. My time with MercyMe has helped me rediscover my true self once muddled by addiction, become a reliable and trustworthy person, working full-time, building relationships and friendships within the program, making amends with my family, and rebuilding the relationships in my life that I once destroyed. Without MercyMe, I wouldn’t have learned boundaries, self-discipline, self-worth, and the meaning needed to fulfill my life in all areas. I will never personally be able to thank MercyMe enough. My time there has come to an end because I am ready to move forward and make room for other women in recovery who need the chance that I was given. MercyMe works, it really does if you work it.” — Jordyn A.
